lightscribe problems in nero cover designer |
Hello , I just installed a new HP DVD 1040i lightscribe burner , visited the lightscribe official site and installed the LS_update 10.16.1 , and entered nero cover designer built a label with a photo jpg and and custom text element. pressed the print option ( the lightscribe print option , and 20 or so minutes later out poped my disk...
with only the text .
I have searched the lightscribe site it just gives directions on how to make such a label , they where the things I did to build it . but the sit clearly indicates the nero should be able to print a photo ...
checked club cd freaks / afterdawn , find some references to the same problem but encounter broken links to nero's site , tried searching nero site with key words lightscribe , and nero 7 , get zero results ??? searched my nero site found only a couple of entries with no resolution , but did give me an idea what to expect from my nero support request.
the most unfortunate part , nero 7 essentials was the bundled software...
if any one knows how to resolve this issue , and get cover designer to burn lightscribe photos to disk , I would appreciate your help.
the steps I used in my project where...
open cover designer / lightscribe project / object / insert / image ...
select my jpeg photo and place it , sizing it for template. then
oblect / insert / text box , and type "my disk name " align the text ....
select print lightscribe label , all seemed top go well then just text the text was etched , have made several attempt with just photos , all just project complete in a few seconds burning nothing the print preview displayed the entire label ....
system as follows
win xp home
custom
asus main board p5rd1-v , 2.8 gig intel single core , 1 gig ram , 200 gig sata , 320 gig ide ( both seagate barracuda 7200), bios( not really sure but it is up to date enough to recognize my cpu...) ati 1950 pro 256 , sound blaster fxi , according to win update , my drivers are up to date except for ati , which is one revision behind ( I am certain that is not relevant ) , and sound blaster which is a bummed driver ( I know cause I installed it what a pain ...) LG dvd dual combo , hp dvd 1040i.
I am certain within reason that I am not having a hardware issue , have a stable system, no conflicts in hardware manager... , the burner functioned fine to burn data , data was confirmed and etched the text portion of the label quite clearly .... the LS diagnostics tool says that all is functioning ok on the lightscribe side.
the media was verbatim lightscribe dvd-r
any help would be appreciated.

update : thank you all for your suggestions , I have already used / installed the nero updates , that is the version I experienced my issue in , I think that setteling for smaller images , is not on my game plan.
I am happily achiving my desired results useing the "Lightscribe template labeler " not the most advanced tool but it works.
the answer I received from nero support was as follows

Dear Mr. Roberts,
thank you for your e-mail.
This is a known problem**** which occurs on some systems**** . Our development department is already working on this issue and I hope it will be solved with the next update. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
In the meantime you can try the following:
Resize the picture so that it doesn't cover the whole label. From a certain size on it should be possible to print the label. Some customers also reported, that they can burn pictures if they convert them into greyscale pictures.
Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Best Regards,

Nero Support "
I am still badgering HP about the dysfunctional bundled software packaged with there device. they do not seem to bothered by it . I receive nothing but auto replies...
for my self I have made the choice to clean nero 7 ultra from my computer , I am plain sick of unistalling it and reinstaling the "updated " yet still not fully functional version.
I have chosen the avenue of rolling back to nero 6 oem , it is stable and needs no updates to get it working. when I feel that is outdated for me , I will use a free alternative such as cdburner xp pro.
as for lightscribe . well obviously nero is not the tool for that job .
thanks for all your suggestions.

Experienced the exact same problem
Have not solved this and think it is a bug, but here is some additional info that may or may not help.
I was trying to put an image on the cd and was trying to size so that it would be as large as possible, i.e. the rectangle sizing box was larger than the cd. Of course this did not work, exactly as you have described.
I shrunk the image to much smaller than the cd, and it printed. Right now I have moved the smaller image so that half of it is off the cd, and it printed.
So I suspect it is something to do with the size of the image relative to the cd area that is responsible for the bug.
I have also tried the background image, and no luck there.
I suspect an upgrade from Nero is required.

template labeler
well I just dont know ,nero seems to not function for anything but text , I am at a loss , for what ever reason it is not aplying the photo layer or back ground , I even tried it as a template...
so I went to lightscribe.com and downloaded the template labeler , it is right now burning an image on to disk so this is suggesting a nero failure. or perhaps I have encountered a conflict in software , can't be overly surprised at that , but I will sooner drop nero than ulead , or cyberlink I am quite fond of the ulead settings/options , and the cyberlink codec works for me with my captures , any one find it odd that I will drop a licensed version for oem ?
I think I will badger at HP support a bit , I am kind of thinking that "software" included means functioning software.
but for now the template labeler does not seem all that bad , it has empty templates that allow full disk photo images , and I am quite handy with my different editors... I am also thinking that some of the templates look ok too , plus I think I breezed past a template / project page at HP's site....
so any one have a review on the new roxio suite ? :-D

Drawing
Hello,
There is one other thing that might affect this. You will have heard the term DirectX, well DirectX is a general description for a whole buch of drivers and Codecs.
One of these is Direct Draw
Its not something you access directly. It is itself a series of functions and procedures used by the Windows Media components to assemble/create an object that is then delivered to some other interface. That interface may be Direct Show which in turn connects to another interface, OR, it connects to a virtual device perhaps a block of memory representing something to be sent to a printer.
I dont know how Nero do their printing...but however they do it the item to be pronted has to be sent to the Light Scribe drivers....and that very likely means accessing DIRECT X !!!
This link
will take you to the latest DirectX install page at Microsoft.
If this fails, and I am not at all confident that it will succeed....Maybe I can sell you a lump hammer...I do the following items...
1) 10lb The gentle touch, mindful of the neighbours and noise
2) 20lb What the heck, give it some welly and sod the neighbours :)
If this fails and because of the many other things you have eliminated....I can offer no more...fresh out of ideas.
Regards.....John
